How do we link the social value agenda to the SDGs? – November 2022 Conference
In 2015, the UK government committed to delivering SDGs. But how much progress have we actually seen on this?
In 2020, the new Social Value Model (PPN06/20) for central government procurement adds in an explicit reference to the SDGs and therefore makes it even more relevant to many public sector contracts – and suppliers wanting to win these.
Internationally the SDG Impact Standards for Enterprise, backed by the UNDP and linked to the Principles of Social Value gets launched. Then in this year, we’ve seen the launch of Social Value Principle 8 Be Responsive also aiding the alignment to the same Goals.
Overall, the SDGs plan for the future, has largely been halted and regressed due to the pandemic. But things are moving again, so let’s dive into the current questions: Is this a priority for UK businesses? Should it be? And is there actually a practical link to social value and our movement or are we at risk of overcomplicating things?
At our conference we discussed if it’s meaningful to link the two agendas and explored how this can be done in practice.
For those who were unable to attend, if you’d like to watch the recorded version of this conference, tickets for the recordings only can be bought for £30 Member Rate and £50 Non-Member Rate. Just send an email to .

Member’s Exchange 2022
At our annual MemEx Conference our team, along with our members and partners, dove into a range of social value topics and themes to help us all to take the next steps towards a shared future of social value-driving decisions for more equality, improved wellbeing, and greater environmental care. Social Value is ever more critical as we collectively face growing interconnected social, environmental, cultural, and economic challenges and need new and innovative thinking to tackle these. We are 10 years on from the implementation of the Social Value Act, much has been achieved in understanding standards and practice development, but a much greater shift is needed to meet the needs of the next 10 years.
At MemEx we always take full advantage of the skills and knowledge from the membership to enable peer-learning, whilst also creating a wealth of resources, and a warm welcome for all both members and non-members. Please read our full programme here. Access to recordings can be purchased by contacting .
