Social Value UK are proud to announce chapmanbdsp as Social Value Pioneers.
chapmanbdsp are a building services and environmental engineering consultancy which works with their clients to make the built environment more sustainable. They have embedded the social value ethic into their business through their core values and environmental impact charter, which sets out their public commitments on how we support their people, communities, and the planet. chapmanbdsp now want to share their experience and collaborate with like-minded organisations to raise the profile of social value within the industry and wider society.
Ahead of their joining Social Value UK, we had a discussion about their goals for their membership!
Why do you think social value is important? In your organisation, your industry or in wider society?
Emphasis on social value is important for our wider society as it encourages us to think beyond the financial and to consider opportunities that can improve long term outcomes for people and planet.
For us, creating social value allows us to leverage our influence in a positive way, it reflects our values and encompasses a range of aspects and factors. These include, our environmental impact, how we support our people – our working environment and culture, how we engage with and provide opportunities for the next generation of engineers, through to the companies we choose to work with, the projects we work on, as well as our contribution to the communities in which we work.
Does your organisation have a background in social value/social accounting/SROI?
This has been ingrained in our ethos for many years and has been delivered through our graduate and apprentice schemes, partnering with charities to provide work placement opportunities for disadvantaged teens, through offering our engineering expertise pro bono and other charitable activities, to name a few.
We have not yet completed any reports. We are currently bidding work with a strong social value focus which require us entering commitments on a social value portal.
What are your plans for your SVUK membership?
We plan to train our people in the latest aspects of social value to raise the level of what we think we can achieve as a business. In tandem with that, we will use our pioneer status to act as advocates for change within the industry and through collaborations with our clients.
