Social Value UK is proud to announce Conduent Transportation as a Social Value Pioneer!
Conduent Transportation is a unit of business process services and solutions company Conduent Incorporated (Nasdaq: CNDT). Conduent Transportation is a leading provider of automated and analytics-based transportation solutions for government agencies. These solutions, spanning road usage charging, parking and kerbside management, and advanced transit and public safety systems, enable streamlined and personalised services for citizens and travellers who use them. The company has been helping transportation clients for more than 50 years and operates in more than 20 countries.
Public Safety – Conduent provides data analytics, automated photo enforcement and other public safety solutions to make streets and communities safer.
Transit – Conduent helps to make journeys more personalised and convenient for travellers, while increasing capacity and profitability for authorities and agencies.
Kerbside Management – Conduent’s intelligent systems simplify parking programmes, reduce congestion, and deliver a driver experience that enables informed decisions.
Road Usage Charging – Conduent provides tools and guidance to intelligently manage traffic flow. These, along with its road usage, congestion management and electronic tolling solutions, enable clients to keep pace with an ever-changing environment and allow efficient traveller transit whilst generating revenue for infrastructure improvements.
Ahead of their joining, Social Value UK spoke to Conduent about their social value journey so far.
Why do you think social value is important? In your organisation, your industry or in wider society?
As a global organisation, Conduent is committed to bringing economic, environmental, and social value benefits to the communities where we work. In the US, the Conduent Foundation provides leadership, focus, and oversight to our philanthropic activities.
- International. Driven by the Conduent Foundation and championed at Board level, these programmes cut across international borders. We typically partner with other global organisations, such as the Red Cross, to deliver projects on this scale.
- Local and Regional. Driven at a regional or individual level and reported back into the foundation for governance, projects range from creating employment opportunities for young or disadvantaged individuals, and volunteering to support local charities.
How does your organisation support your industry?
Conduent is passionate about promoting the wide range of opportunities within the transportation industry – from entry-level roles to a career choice with a clear development roadmap and defined pathway to leadership positions. As an industry advocate, we are committed to building partnerships that strengthen local supply chains by working with local employment companies, charities, independent training providers, and higher education establishments to share this knowledge and build an understanding of what this sector can offer. Our aim is that the commitments we establish and develop will deliver social benefits to the communities we operate in.
Does your organisation have a background in social value/social accounting/SROI?
Conduent is home to many service veterans, including our CEO, and, in support of this commitment to ex-services personnel, has signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant – an initiative established by the UK charity ‘Help for Heroes’ to provide lifetime support to those wounded serving their country.
Conduent has also received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award. The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support the armed forces and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver, and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate, or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
We also engage with the armed forces charity SSAFA and the White Ensign Association and work with the Career Transition Partnership to help ex-forces personnel, or soon-to-be leavers, find work outside of the military. In addition, Conduent supports The Blue Angels Foundation in the US, a group dedicated to helping wounded veterans.
What are your plans for your Social Value UK membership?
We aim to embed social value into operational activities, maximise social value creation, and effectively measure and demonstrate the impact of both. Membership will provide opportunities to engage with diverse organisations to both learn from and share our own social value experiences to achieve these objectives. We are keen to better understand and support high-level social value evolution (e.g. policy, strategy) and the practicalities of effective delivery at the grassroots level. Networking and participation in Social Value UK thought leadership forums and working groups will help inform and guide our decision-making.
