Social Value UK and International would like to congratulate Timothy Lambert of SI2 Fund for achieving Level 3 on the Practitioner Status Pathway – Advanced Practitioner!
SI2 Fund identifies impact ventures offering breakthrough innovations to tackle societal challenges, and helps them scale with tailored capital, active in-kind support and access to networks. By leveraging both business and impact performance, we work to generate a strong and sustainable societal impact, alongside a fair financial return.
Why have you decided to undertake the Social Value International Practitioner Pathway? What has lead to your application for Level 3 of Practitioner?
Applying for Level 3 of Practitioner seemed to be a natural step following the Social Value & SROI practitioner course. The pathway would help me test my understanding of the Social Value Principles and validate my capacity to assess the impact potential of an enterprise. Obtaining the certification would also allow me to communicate this expertise more confidently and transparently towards future clients or partners.
What did you learn and find useful from this assessment process? How did you find working with your assessor?
The journey helped me appreciate the depth of each Principle and seek creative ways to comply with them while taking contextual constraints into account. The process also invites you to be humble and carefully ponder the strengths and limitations of your analysis, which is crucial for transparency. The review by the assessor was an opportunity to benefit from an educated external perspective on the work accomplished. The assessor challenged some critical assumptions and helped me provide more clarity in certain areas.
Now that you are Level 3: Advanced Practitioner what do you plan to do next to continue to develop your practice, and to use your practitioner skills?
Moving forward, I will continue advising enterprises on smart approaches to framing, measuring and managing their societal impact. I am convinced that applying the Social Value Principles can yield substantial benefits for enterprises and I will make it my mission to materialize and document this potential.
Are there any other specific projects you are doing at the moment?
I am developing a venture dedicated to help impact professionals adopt stronger impact management practices by means of online practical courses and online mentoring. It is called the Impact Management Academy (www.impactmanagementacademy.com). The first courses will soon be online and I am sure SROI/social value will be one of them.
You have now joined a community of practice around the globe. What does this mean to you and why do you want to participate and contribute to the development of the methodology and overall social value movement?
Solving the problems that threaten our planet and civilization require a fundamental change in the way the world accounts for value. This ambitious project won’t succeed unless we manage to cooperate effectively at various levels and between many different stakeholders around the globe, and I am excited to support this noble cause.
Social Value Principles have an essential role to play in enlightening managerial decision-making and helping organizations thrive in the XXIst century. I feel blessed to be part of a community of practitioners that fights for increased adoption of the Principles, thereby for a better future for all.
