The IFRS is responsible for international accounting standards that determine how we currently account for value and are considering establishing a SSB alongside the IAS, read more about the consultation here.
Social Value International (SVI) is a non-profit organisation with a mission to change the way the world accounts for value. We are a network of networks spanning 45 different countries comprising professionals from public, private and civil society organisations.
SVI are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this IFRS consultation on the creation of a Sustainability Standards Board (SSB). This response we are submitting is the result of our own consultation wherein we hosted webinar discussions and circulated a draft response for comments.
In summary, SVI is broadly supportive of the proposal to establish a SSB within the IFRS. This is a significant opportunity to address the significant global sustainability threats currently faced by society, and by extension, for long term financial stability.
However, we believe that the scale of these threats has implications for the work of a SSB and in this context we would make several recommendations, the rationale for these recommendations is presented in our answer and you can read our response in full here.
We encourage you to sign this response here, and share this with your colleagues, networks and more to use this opportunity to influence that agenda as part of the Social Value International mission, to strengthen the network/community of those who share this vision and develop a more effective method of reaching our collective goals as a network.
If you would like to be a signatory to SVI’s response, please add your details to the google sheet no later than 12pm GMT on Monday 14th December 2020.
